Celebrating 63 New Homes!

Posted January 26, 2016

For 63 of our current tenants, the path out of homelessness will include a concrete step toward greater independence in just a few more weeks. On February 11, we’ll celebrate the grand opening of Sylvia Odom’s Place! Will you join us?

Sylvia Odom’s Place has grown a lot since the groundbreaking. Take a peek at recent progress from the end of December. It’s almost a home!

Sylvia Odom’s Place is the newest outcome of our innovative Housing Options Program. Because our tenants face many different challenges, a move from our 24/7 supportive housing with round-the-clock support to fully independent living is just too big a step for many. Sylvia Odom’s Place provides tenants with more independent housing and utilizes fewer staff resources, while still supporting tenants with specific needs.

What’s more, when these tenants leave their 24/7 supportive apartments, their apartments become available for 63 new tenants coming right from shelters and off the streets. In a nutshell, Sylvia Odom’s Place is a win-win-win for current residents, future tenants, and the homelessness crisis that Seattle is beginning to address.

We’re profoundly grateful to the Employees Community Fund of Boeing for their $215,000 grant that helped us fully furnish all of the apartments and common spaces in Sylvia Odom’s Place—and to the residents of Horizon House and donors to the Sylvia’s Place Welcome Home Fund who provided amenities such as linens and kitchen supplies to turn these apartments into homes.

Would you like to contribute? We’re still seeking donations to help us provide exercise equipment to help our residents stay fit and healthy, an interactive announcement board to keep them up-to-date on building events, and other community amenities. You can donate online here, or by mailing a check payable to Plymouth Housing Group to:

Attn: Paul Lambros, Plymouth Housing Group, 2113 Third Avenue, Seattle WA 98121.

(Be sure to note “Sylvia’s Place Fund” in the memo line on your check!)

We hope to celebrate with you on February 11th!
