Plymouth’s 10th Annual “Key to Hope” Luncheon Inspires Great Support

Posted September 22, 2013

The luncheon was a huge success, raising one-half million dollars to support Plymouth’s programs and services!

The event, held on Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Westin Hotel downtown, brought together more than 900 of our area’s most engaged residents, all of whom were engrossed by the keynote presentation of ABC News anchor and reporter Bob Woodruff. Bob used his own story of serious injury and painstaking recovery as a window into the battles faced by veterans in the field and back home.

Bob’s emphasis on the transformational power of courage and compassion was echoed in the remarks of Ronnie Henderson, vice president of Fortune Bank, who described in intensely personal and deeply moving terms the positive outcomes that Plymouth has brought to his mother Linda’s life–and to his own.

Ronnie and his mother were featured in Plymouth’s 2013 luncheon video. (click to view)

Also featured in the video was Senator Patty Murray, who discussed the critical issue of homelessness among veterans of U.S. military service and underscored the vital role played by Plymouth’s permanent supportive housing. Adding to the power of the video were Plymouth staff member (and 2013 Mission Award winner) Marilyn Mitchell and Plymouth resident John W. In his remarkable story of recovery and service, John demonstrates beautifully the well-being, stability and growth that becomes possible for the men and women who live at Plymouth.

Ronnie’s heartfelt call to action at the luncheon—which emphasized both the human, personal benefits and the impressive economic benefits of  Plymouth—sustained the powerful themes established in the presentations by Dan Greenshields, President, ShareBuilder by Capital One; by luncheon committee co-chairs Diane Castanes and Mercedes Fernandez; and by Paul Lambros, Plymouth’s executive director.

From the perspective of his 20-year tenure at Plymouth, Paul thanked attendees for their longstanding support of Plymouth and congratulated the community for the vision and generosity that have made the fantastic individual and civic outcomes of Plymouth possible.

Paul’s remarks highlighted both recent Plymouth accomplishments and the emerging needs and opportunities Plymouth will be addressing moving forward.  By remaining alert and innovative, Plymouth can remain at the forefront  of bold, cost-effective solutions that save lives and dollars.

Every dollar raised is changing a life at Plymouth Housing Group and beyond.

Thanks to your generosity, formerly-homeless adults like John– a military veteran –can call the Pat Williams Apartments “home” and have the opportunity to participate in Plymouth’s Recovery Support program to become clean and sober.  Mothers like Linda are off the streets and for the first time feel secure and understood.  And her son, Ronnie, can find peace of mind knowing that his mother is safe, respected and living in dignity.

Stewart Landefeld and table guests respond to Paul Lambros’s remarks. Plymouth’s luncheon was, as always, a time of community building, inspiration and hope.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to all whose generous support makes the dramatic outcomes of Plymouth possible all year long.   View all of the luncheon photos here!
